BC Schools Blog About SOLO UDL Project

Want to see what UDL (Universal Design for Learning) in action really looks like?  Including implementation teething pains (“a student tried to install on a 64 bit home computer…”) outlines (guided research in Draft:Builder for a BC communities project) and plenty of “oh Wow!”’s (“Okay, I’m officially in love with SOLO…”) too? 11 schools in BC are blogging publicly about their experiences using SOLO unlimited as part of a SET-BC (Special Education Technology of British Columbia) UDL project. SET-BC put out a call for schools that would apply technology to incorporate 21st strategies and resources to their teaching. The goal was to put Universal Design for Learning into instructional action. Inspired by the experience at Birchland Elementary School, laptops have been provided to students loaded with Read:Outloud, Draft:Builder, Co:Writer and Write:Outloud.  The entire SOLO suite -- the powerful literacy teaching tool -- has been rolled out as unlimited licenses, with take home rights for teachers and students. This UDL project couldn’t be timelier for schools in BC and across the country.

• In BC, schools can get a license for all of SOLO at a special price through the SET-BC administered PSAP (Provincial Software Acquisition Plan) for only $2400, the regular price starts at $4290 for over 45% off.  But you have to act fast.  There are only 65 of these licenses available and only until the end of the school year.
• Until the end of the school year Read:Outloud unlimited is available for only $999 for the entire school. This includes home access for both teachers and students (Regular price is $1299).
